The Christmas at Callanwolde Show House proceeds benefit Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, serving the community as an educational center for the visual, literary and performing arts.

Tracy accepted the award on Thursday, Feb 2, 2012, at an elegant Awards Gala held in the Lobby of the world-famous Merchandise Mart in Chicago. More than 500 trade professionals, industry leaders and design aficionads gathered for the first ever Chicago Interior Design Hall of Fame sponsored by Mercedes-Benz USA and Chicagoland Mercedes-Benz Dealers.

One of most popular items to customize is the our FRED table. It started off as a console, but has been customized by our creative designers and made into a desk, nightstand, and more!

Julia Buckingham Edelmann, owner of Buckingham Interiors + Design,
used a custom FRED console in this fabulous interior that's featured in this
month's (Winter 2012) issue of CS Interiors on page 65. One of the rooms from this
same home is on the cover! Congrats, Julia!

Designers can use ANY of our signature materials to create a unique look. Materials available: concrete, maple, walnut, reclaimed oak, clear or back-painted glass, antique mirror, and liquid line lacquer.

Tom Konopiots and Michael Stornello created a pair of these custom FRED nightstands for their clients.
They used back-painted glass tops and brought the lattice design to the front.

It's that time again... This weekend is DIFFA's Dining by Design Gala in Chicago. Here are some photos of BRADLEY HUGHES pieces used at one of last year's tables. Designed by Julia Buckingham Edelmann, of Buckingham Interiors + Design, and sponsored by Atelier Lapchi.

In November 2010, Atelier Lapchi and Buckingham Interiors + Design, LLC. partnered to design a table for DIFFA's Dining by Design Event. Bradley Hughes donated their Bianca Table and Rocco Chair to help complete the look. DIFFA (Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS) "is one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education organization in the United States. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has mobilized the resources of the design communities to provide more than $38 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nationwide. Dining by Design is DIFFA's signature fundraising program and has enjoyed success for over a decade. Believe that one day there will be a world without AIDS."

Patrick DeAngelis was raised in the Industrial Heartland, or the “Rust Belt”, an area where automotive manufacturing and steel production geographically overlap. His father, Dominico Anthony DeAngelis, was a mechanic for 25 years in Cleveland, Ohio. Patrick spent most of his youth assisting his dad and watching him work on rusty automobiles. He hated sitting in that garage but loved looking at the shapes and colors of the materials.

After high school, when the time came to choose between attending college or follow in his father’s footsteps as a mechanic, he did not hesitate. He attended Kent State University for his bachelor’s degree. A year later, he moved to NYC to become an artist and acquired his masters degree at the prestigious New York Academy of Art. He sees his most recent work as a chance to reflect on his life growing up in north east Ohio, a place that will always be near to his heart and as a summary of his experiences while studying art at two very different universities. The New York Academy of Art offered a refined, technique and process-oriented education while Kent State University instilled the importance of concept and abstraction. As a result, his work combines traditional techniques, 20th century processes and ideas, and contemporary strategies in new forms of media. Patrick uses mediums such as collected scrap metal and salvaged wood to communicate the beauty of where he’s from and to express the sadness of what it’s become.

“My work is an organization of predetermined and spontaneous materials and marks; a balance of conceptual and aesthetic intentions combined with intuitive or subconscious mark making. Each piece is an opportunity to document an emotion, a level of innocence, a level of understanding, and a level of ignorance of a moment in time. Subjects fluctuate between social issues, love, the pursuit of home or the feeling of home, entrances and exits, and reflections on the changing times. I always document the date, time, where I am, and what I’m thinking at that moment; I see the piece as a surface to journal and record my life. During the creative processes it’s important for me to address surface quality and generate an emotional response to tactile qualities of the piece. Color relationships are also very important in my work, I often experiment with translucent neutral mixtures and how they relate to intense opaque colors.

Vincent Desidario, a figurative painter in New York once told me that there are three dynamic relationships in painting: light versus dark, transparent versus opaque, and warm versus cool. At the time I was painting the figure exclusively and I would focus on these relationships while attempting to render the figure and the illusion of form. Over time I became less interested in painting the figure or space or form, instead I began focusing only on the relationships themselves. Instead of painting light vs. dark in an attempt to create an illusion, I began painting light vs. dark just as it is. I’ve since added three more relationships that I consider to be important in my work: neutral vs. intense, textured vs. smooth and horizontal vs. vertical. Aesthetically my work is an ongoing investigation of these contrasting relationships. My paintings are assembled from salvaged materials and constructed in a sculpture manner; I want the final piece to be seen as a painting, an object, a document, and a personal journal.”

Recently, we made a custom conference table for Julia Buckingham Edelmann of Buckingham Interiors + Design's fabulous West Town office space in Chicago.

Julia selected a White Liquid Line Lacquer top by Heidi Pierce inset within a white powder coated iron band. The custom base was designed by Julia and finished in a white powder coat finish as well.

Buckingham Interiors + Design is constantly updating their office with a rotating art collection and giving their space a new look with different chairs and lighting.

NEW Artist Spotlight: Curtis James Miller

BRADLEY HUGHES is proud to announce our NEWEST artist, Curtis James Miller.

Curtis James Miller is a figurative artist concerned with the depiction of movement through static form. He works with a multitude of materials such as cast bronze, cast iron, concrete, wood, and steel to create sculptures of various scales—from small to X-large.

Miller is not only a talented fine-artist, but also a Combat Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, who completed 2 deployments in Iraq and graduated from the prestigious SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design - Atlanta). Miller translates themes of warrior culture into accessible works of art. He uses wings, feathers and classical imagery to fuse mythology with modern design.

Currently, he is working on a memorial sculpture commemorating the tragedies of 9/11. The sculpture will incorporate a piece of steel from one of the World Trade Center Towers in NYC.

Curtis James Miller's iron and concrete sculptures will be shown at our Chicago Showroom (Suite 1855 of the Merchandise Mart).
